Standards Education Activities of UMd CALCE Gained IEEE Award


The IEEE Educational Activities Board (EAB) and the IEEE Standards Association Board of Governors, respectively, voted to recognize the Center for Advanced Life Cycle Engineering (CALCE) in University of Maryland for exceptional achievements in standards education activities by awarding CALCE. The 2013 IEEE Educational Activities Board / Standards Association (EAB/SA) Standards Education Award states the following citation:

“for continued leadership in developing and promoting standards education in the field of reliability engineering”

This award was established by the IEEE EAB and the Standards Board of Governors to provide recognition for those who have:
  • Actively promoted the integration of standards, including IEEE standards, into academic and corporate internal development programs
  • Provided support for education about standards needed in the design and development phases of professional practice (e.g., lectures, speaking engagements, tutorials, case studies, articles, etc.)
  • Promoted the importance of standards in meeting technical, economic, environmental, political and societal challenges
  • Made significant and/or regular contributions of standards education materials (e.g., tutorials, case studies, articles, etc.)
  • Provided content or materials to support education about the standards setting process
  • The 2013 IEEE EAB/SA Awards Presentation Ceremony will take place at The Palace at Somerset Park, Somerset, NJ, USA on Sunday evening, 8 December 2013.

    On behalf of the IEEE EAB, Michael Lightner, Director & Vice President of Educational Activities, extended the sincere congratulations to CALCE to Dr. Michael Pecht, Director and Founder of the Center for Advanced Life Cycle Engineering.

    Dr. Pecht chairs the Reliability Society's Standards Working Groups developing and maintaining reliability and PHM (Prognostics and Health Management) standards.
